AOsite plugins are small scripts or scriptlets which are designed to integrate into AOsite's program infrastructure. Simply put: its a little program that 'plugs in' to AOsite, adding an ability.
Plugins generally do not work by themselves, and must be installed to the AOsite folder structure. Using a very easy to understand file management system, administrators can easily add and remove plugins as needed.
One example of a plugin is the FormMail plugin, which gives AOsite the ability to provide a form which visitors can send mail to the site webmaster. Another plugin is the File Donwloader, which allows administrators the ability to incorporate download links quickly and easily.
By using plugins instead of incorporating everything together, the AOsite engine requires no alteration except during version upgrades, and upgrading is seamless. This provides an optimum operating environment and easy integration method for customized features (plugins).
